The Swedish retailer recently engineered kitchen cabinets that are made from reclaimed industrial wood and recycled plastic bottles. Designed by Swedish studio Form Us With Love , the cabinets are called — prepare yourself for a tongue-twister — Kungsbacka , and are the company's first kitchen cabinets to be made completely from the two materials, according to Dezeen .
SEKTION is the name for the only base cabinet system that IKEA now offers. For more than two decades, IKEA's modular kitchen cabinet system was known as AKURUM. In 2015, AKURUM was discontinued and SEKTION took its place. While IKEA will support owners of AKURUM products to a limited degree, it is largely a dead product line.
How Is the Quality of IKEA Kitchen Cabinets? I understand that some people are suspicious of IKEA cabinets, since they are made of particle board (similar to MDF — medium density fiberboard). The low cost of the cabinets and their material make some folks uneasy about purchasing.
IKEA’s cabinets are made out of MDF (MDF stands for Medium Density Fiberboard) wrapped in a very durable melamine finish… And no, MDF is not the same thing as particle board… It’s MUCH stronger and can be used for the same building applications as plywood…
